Custom
Intake Modification for MY99 - Description and Images![]()
I've had a few people ask me where I purchased the parts for the custom
intake.
I was able to get the 3" mandrel bent Al pipe and silicone connections from a dealer in Canada called PRM
at this web site: http://www.prmracing.com/ e-mail: prm@idirect.com
The prices were reasonable IMHO.
2.5 X 3" reducer = 36.75 CDN
3" coupler = 14.70 CDN
bent Al pipe = 58.50 CDN
shipping was = 15.50 CDN
The total cost was about 85.50 USD. On 4/11/00 the exchange rate was 1 USD = 1.46 CDN. He indicated that a custom
bend would be extra
but doable. They were very accommodating and are willing to custom bend to your specs. Ask for Jerry if you call,
the number is on the site. They also
have their own version of a heat shielded cone filter. Their filter appears to be of better quality and construction
than the Ractive filter. I plan on possibly
trying one after I measure and see if I have room. As far as painting the pipe I just used a spray can of hi-temp
paint and took my time doing it. I got the Ractive filter on e-bay but I have seen them advertised in SCC .
I couldn't find anyplace that wanted to just sell me the MAF adapter. The MAF adapter and bottom MAF brace I had
to have custom fabricated. Kartboy made it for me and of course it's typical Kartboy quality. The upper MAF brace
I made myself out of some flat stock I got at the local hardware store. Of course you guys with 00's will not have
the problems I did finding an MAF adapter since you don't need one. Lucky Ducks. I'm not sure if Kartboy's willing
to make more but I think he might it's worth asking. His web site is: http://www.kartboy.com
It's worth visiting just to see the Kartboy Kustoms Kool logo ;^)
After doing the temp study I feel it's necessary to get the cooler air from inside the fender so I'm gonna have
to figure a way to hook mine up. It's close but apparently that's not good enough after looking at the graph. Hopefully
I can do it if I switch to the PRM filter.
So far I've not had MAF problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but, it is mounted very solidly and I'm using
the stock torque box so I'm hoping nothing will happen. I've gone to the Auto-X and driven it pretty hard too.
I hope that answers any questions, if not just e-mail me direct.
